Approach and Pricing

Grand Rapids, Michigan Senior Portrait and Family Photographer.

Risk being seen— that’s where the magic lies. The making of a portrait is more than good lighting and good equipment. Whether I’m photographing a family session, high school senior, maternity session, or any other type of portrait session, I keep the process relaxed and free flowing. I often tell clients to throw out any ideas they may have of what they’ve been taught to believe the photographic process should be like.

We choose a location that you love, you dress up in whatever you feel most comfortable and confident in, and we hang out with my camera between us.

I value classic portraiture and documentary style coverage so the photos we make together will increase in personal value over the years. The images of laughter as well as the occasional moment of chaos tell a story that will age beautifully. As we capture the traditional ‘stare at the camera, smile’ photos, I quietly photograph candid-style frames.

It’s worth noting that heavily processed images are not what I create. I believe all people are worthy of a great portrait without the need of digital modification. Everybody is welcome.

Each session includes an unlimited number of delivered images (no limits on the numbers, only a minimum), a private online image gallery to review images, print release, and resources to back up and preserve your images. I offer fine art heirloom photo albums and prints as a form of physical backup, my preferred and recommended route.

Clients invest $600+ for full family and lifestyle portrait sessions, but can vary based on your customized requests and product purchases. Shorter, mini-style sessions available on select days.

If my approach speaks to you, let’s begin the conversation. Travel fees quoted per project. I may be in your area soon so feel free to reach out about my travel schedule if you want me to come to you or join you wherever you’re headed.

If you’re looking for extended family sessions, baby shower coverage, larger family gathering packages, birthdays, etc., please reach out for a custom quote.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is your approach?

I take a photojournalistic approach, emphasizing candid moments and portraits. Upon arrival to your session, I take an extra moment to get you relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. I am generally more ‘hands off,’ but direct if needed.

DO YOU CHARGE TAX?

Yes, photos are taxed at the normal rate for products regardless if you receive them digitally or physically in the State of Michigan.

HOW MANY PHOTOS DO I RECEIVE?

I deliver 30+ images for a typical photo session, but there are no limits. I prioritize quality photographs over quantity. Good storytelling takes time, observation, and focus.

CAN WE GET AN ALBUM PHOTOS FROM OUR SESSION?

Yes! I offer fine art albums as a form of physical backup. They are designed in-house and manufactured through a professional print lab in the style of traditional bookmakers.

What should we wear?

There are no rules. I recommend sticking with what you feel best wearing. Feeling confident is most important. Happy to offer recommendations according to your location or look you are going for.
